Who we are...

We're Lise and Bob - a couple who like to unearth buried treasure in the form of unusual, historic and dark places. We enjoy a good castle, feel at home in a stone circle and love a medieval church. But since Bob was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few years ago, we have found visiting these places has become more and more difficult due to the diversity of his MS symptoms.

A photo of me (lise) and Bob. Bob is on the left wearing a blue shirt, black tshirt and leopard print trousers. He is wearing a red and black baseball cap. He is holding onto his rollator which is just off screen. I am wearing a grey tshirt with a print from the movie scream, a black leather harness, a black skirt and a black wide brimmed hat and black boots.

What is The Open Crypt?

Accessibility information (when provided) is often tucked away in a hidden dark corner of the website and very rarely has the practical information that disabled people need to be able to plan a safe and enjoyable trip and it's made even harder by going to older and darker places.

We know we aren't alone in this, so rather than stopping exploring we decided to start helping by sharing honest accessibility information specifically for places enjoyed by other Dark Tourists as well as some other lifestyle bits and pieces. Expect ruins, cathedrals, museums, alternative markets, conventions, attractions and any other weird and wonderful finds we discover along the way.

We understand that disabilities come in all shapes and sizes and if you have anything to add that maybe we haven't considered or if you find any of the information to be incorrect, please feel free to get in touch on Instagram or by email.

And of course, accessibility information doesn't just help those who are disabled, better accessibility information benefits everyone which is why The Open Crypt is OPEN FOR EVERY  BODY.
